Frequently Asked Questions

How we work, what to expect, and how payment works.

Insurance-based PT typically means 20–30 minute sessions, a therapist managing several patients at once, and care dictated by billing codes rather than your actual goals. At Applied Performance, your entire hour is yours: one therapist, fully focused, working on the root cause rather than the symptom. Many of our patients reach their goals in fewer total visits, which makes the investment comparable to extended insurance-based care.
Yes. Physical therapy is an eligible expense under most HSA and FSA plans. You can pay at checkout with your health savings card. If you need documentation for your plan administrator, we provide superbills at every visit.
Washington Wellness PT is our insurance-based practice at the same locations. Applied Performance is our cash-pay, out-of-network option, designed for patients who want more time per session, more personalization, and care that isn’t capped by insurance visit limits. Both practices share the same clinical team. If you’re unsure which is right for you, see our Care Options comparison.
No referral needed. DC allows direct access to physical therapy, meaning you can book and start care without seeing a physician first. Some insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement purposes. If you’re planning to submit a superbill, check with your insurer.
Your first session is a 60-minute initial evaluation. Your therapist will review your health history, assess your movement patterns and areas of concern, and build a customized treatment plan with you. Many patients receive hands-on treatment in the first visit. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in.
AP works well for athletes, active professionals, dancers and performers, and anyone who wants a premium, 1-on-1 PT experience. It’s also ideal for patients transitioning out of insurance-covered care who want to continue their progress, or postpartum individuals looking for specialized pelvic health PT.
